The centre screw fits directly into the recoil lug. Both these screws are tightened well, consistent with the size scewdriver used for each slot. The front screw fits into a loose nut which slides freely along the machined barrel lug and is only tightened sufficiently to ensure a positive pressure by the barrel on the pressure point in the barrel channel. Not too much, not too little. The smooth sliding action of the nut along the barrel lug ensures that there always is only a downward force on the barrel here and no residual linear stresses. The barrel lug piece is integrally machined from the barrel steel during manufacture and not a tightened band around the barrel. This pressure point is the final determination for the rifle's accuracy. This is a pleasing, capable hunting piece which is my son's goto rifle whether he is after elk-size game like wildebeest, kudu or gemsbok as well as the pronghorn size springbok. He is happy with it out to 300 yards.
